Challenge

Jayne Nelson Interiors was commissioned to respectfully restore The George Hotel, Colchester which boasts a deep-rooted history dating back more than 500 years.  The George Hotel is situated in England’s oldest recorded town, and the client, Surya Hotels wanted to achieve an inviting and beautiful interior that would ‘wrap around’ its guests and complement the charming period features within the 49-bedroom heritage building.

Solution

BARK wallcovering was chosen as a natural effect, a rich and warm backdrop for the lobby in perfect harmony alongside the rich deep colours, and typical décor of medieval nobility.

Our plaster-effect METROPOLITAN wallcovering was installed in the cloakrooms and on the ground floor corridors adding a bold and industrial feel opposite a feature wall with illustrations referencing the past.

Fabric textured TWEED wallcovering is installed on the corridor walls outside the bedrooms adding a classic yet contemporary look.

Continuing with the royal blue colour theme, our textile patterned wallcovering JACANA was carefully selected for some of the Heritage Suites complementing the soft décor and lavish intricated weaves of the textile soft furnishings.  

 In the other Heritage Suites, BELMONT linen fabric-inspired wallcovering was chosen in Taupe juxtaposed with the accent pieces of vibrant and stately bed frames and headboards.

The restoration project commenced during the start of the global pandemic and throughout, Surya Hotels needed to carry out the works and ensure supply and installation would be carried out during the most disruptive of times.  Surya Hotels had worked with Muraspec in the past and trusted us to deliver goods with exceptional customer service.

Results

The George Hotel was successfully restored to its former glory embracing its architectural history whilst adding luxury and functionality for a stay that guests will want to share with friends and return to.
