Challenge 

Award-winning architects, Tremend was commissioned to renovate and curate the brand experience of the 230-room hotel, Crowne Plaza, Budapest.

The hotel’s interior design would draw upon the modern city and its surroundings.

Tremend sought to embrace the contrasts between historic and modern.  Each independent space within the hotel had to tell its own unique story inspired by different parts of the city, celebrating some of its traditions.

The walls, ceilings and finishes would be the lynchpin, tying each element seamlessly whilst adhering to strict fire ratings and providing antimicrobial protection to safeguard its guests.

Solution

Muraspec Wallcoverings fulfilled all the technical specification requirements and offered the best solution for performance, texture and colour for the bedrooms, corridors, conference rooms and lobby.A wide range of wallcoverings was used in this project including vibrant eye-catching digital murals in the lobby juxtaposed with our warm Walnut wood Strataflex. Muted colours with textured patterns were the choice of wallcoverings on ceilings and walls to help enhance comfort whilst creating an inviting atmosphere typically found in small and intimate venues. 

Results

The renovation was a resounding success that led to Tremend picking up a prestigious Muse Design Award. The guest experience is heightened with the clever storytelling elements, such as the reference to the historic railway station built by the Gustav Eiffel company in the 19th century. Accents of steel, glass and wood convey the atmosphere of travel and movement.

Flexible and relaxing spaces are appointed throughout to ensure that guests don’t feel confined to their rooms; making it the perfect destination for business and tourist travellers.

More than 10,000 linear metres of Muraspec Wallcoverings make up part of the overall thoughtful design with the majority of the products having antimicrobial protective substrate built into the wallcovering.  With Crowne Plaza being part of the IHG brand, which has a longstanding commitment to rigorous cleaning, it was essential that the specified wallcoverings would not only be durable, but offer peace of mind and support the IHG Clean Promise.

Muraspec’s partner, Cool Trade Hungary supported the end-user from concept to delivery, assisting with the colour-matching and the recommendation of professional wallcovering installers.
