Challenge

The Alma Health & Spa is situated in Brailia County, South-Eastern Romania by the famous therapeutic mineral-rich ‘Lacul Sarat’ (Salt Lake).  The client sought to elevate its wellness retreat by offering its guests a fresh modern décor that would blend in with the natural surroundings and promote feelings of relaxation and wellbeing.

The salt lake contains 90,000 tonnes of sapropelic mud making the air rich in saline aerosols.  This hypertonic salty environment and humidity of the spa facility required wallcoverings that were non-permeable IMO-rated and biocide protected and fully washable with excellent light fastness.

Solution

Muraspec was the wallcovering manufacturer of choice for all the wallcoverings and elevator finishes throughout the resort which includes 60 therapy rooms, 185 rooms, 6 restaurants, and 4 event rooms including the Alma Grand Ballroom (one of the most spectacular event halls in Romania) spanning 28,300 square metres.

The subtle sheen and texture of the soft vertical striped TESSAI provided a neutral and chic wallcovering for the principal bedrooms. Our BARK tree-effect design was the perfect choice for the corridors as it connected the building to nature.

The rooms in the new building closest to the lake feature our pearlescent VERONA design in harmony alongside the contemporary textile pattern of JACANA.

The textile look continues throughout the corridors with the finely textured AVIGNON design.

The Grand Ballroom and Ballroom Lobby display the delicate and elegant shimmering SATURN design adding to the grandeur of the high-ceiling room.

GRANADA blue wallcovering was chosen to complement the nautical interior of one of the restaurants.  The variable width of the blue vertical stripes alongside furniture and collected pieces in natural textures depicts a maritime theme that lends itself to a sense of calm and wellbeing.

The leather-effect Strataflex was thoughtfully chosen to cover the elevators softening the appearance and enhancing the ambiance with nature-inspired finishings.

Results 

Elegantly appointed and exquisitely finished, the new luxurious rooms at Alma Health & Spa Retreat are beautiful, modern, and calming.

It’s no wonder that this stunning resort scooped second place at the Top Hotel Awards (Romania) – HOTEL OPENING OF THE YEAR 2022!
