International Leader in Wallcoverings

Custom murals set the scene for two NHS training centres

Challenge:

Cowan Architects commissioned building contractors, Michael Brady Ltd. to deliver a complete fitout of London Ambulance Service’s training and simulation rooms in Newham and Brentside sites. Two standalone fast track projects to be completed within nine weeks.

Solution:

Paying close attention to detail, the Digital Team enhanced and sharpened the images to reflect the perspective and repetition of the houses and brickwork.  Perspective and repetition were significant issues to overcome to achieve the most realistic outcome.

Glass film skyline silhouettes were developed, and opacity variations submitted for approval. These were later printed on optically clear glass film using white ink.

The complexity of the project arose during the production of the iconic city skyline images on wall to glass walls, and partitions.  It was crucial that the same design carried across glass and walls as an unbroken continuous flow. There were different medias and substrates to work with so that continuation flow was maintained.

Working closely with Michael Brady Ltd, all wallcoverings were printed with a bespoke UV ink set up to 350gsm/ B-s2, d0/ CE marked and a scrubbable finish.

The survey and installation were conducted by Muraspec, allowing for a seamless installation.

Results:

Both projects were completed in time for the students’ opening day. The state-of-the-art simulation rooms offer first responder students the best augmented reality training without incurring personal injury. The virtual teaching rooms with screens on opposing walls enables teachers to host online training to the masses whilst the privacy pods serve as a haven for counselling, training and break out comfort zones.

Our solutions helped to create a modern yet calming environment which offers privacy for up to 160 NHS staff and students.

Being involved at the start of the specification stage ensured that accurate measurements were taken during the site survey. The chosen products were thoughtfully considered, and adequate production time was allocated right through to installation by our experienced inhouse team.

“We have recently worked with Muraspec on two fast-track construction programmes for the London Ambulance Service Estate which were running concurrently across two different sites. Muraspec were very professional across each stage of the project, directly from initial contact for quoting right through until after handover with their customer care service. Their Account Manager, Kam, was always on-hand to ensure the project was running smoothly and the target dates were held throughout the contract. The on-site installation team too were very helpful in ensuring high quality was delivered on a tight installation programme, receiving high compliments from our Site Management team. We would have no hesitation recommending Muraspec for any future project and look forward to working with them again soon.”
