The Nizuc Resort and Spa in Cancun has been transformed from a Presidential residence into a luxurious hideaway for tourists, with a stunning interior design showcasing the beautiful Mexican surroundings.

The resort takes advantage from its location, with high ceilings and open doorways providing colourful vistas; however, the design also brings the outside in with a considered combination of natural textures and earthy colours.

Exposed rock and wood create layered, textured walls, adding interest to the expansive corridors, with pillars and wide steps creating a strong geometry on an almost spiritual level, giving off a sense of peace, order, and tranquillity.

A room to note, however, is the chic Havana Lounge, which steps back slightly from nature for a more layered, comfy look, which is more Midcentury Mexican than the Mayan influences of the open spaces. A chessboard floor and leather couches provide some old-style sophistication, while the eclectic range of light fixtures contribute the same glow that permeates the rest of the resort.
