Muraspec Digital

Muraspec moved into digital wallcoverings several years ago. Using a base vinyl we specially formulated in the factory we can print onto a durable and attractive material with 6 different standard emboss finishes. Colour vibrancy and print clarity are first class and this part of our portfolio is adding real excitement to our product range.

Our digital offering allows whole walls to be filled with exciting graphics, be they photographic, illustrative, art or product montages. All of our business sectors have a need to create excitement, show off their product, share a message, enhance a mood or simply to add beauty to their space. Digital printing has none of the restrictions of traditional wallcoverings and, if the file is correctly prepared huge images can be outputted with each wallcovering piece providing a different part of the overall image.

CAD and digital teams combine to provide files, either bitmap based (Tiff/Jpeg for example) or vector based (Illustrator). Many of our professional customers provide us with graphics so we only need to enhance and refine them to suit our system. Files are scaled up and colour matched as required. We always size the image to be slightly bigger than wall size to allow for wall error, and then tile the image into separate pieces to match our product width. There is an overlap between each piece.

These “drops” are then sent via an image processor to our printer. The printer is very high resolution (720 x 1440 dpi) and prints with solvent inks. With millions of droplets being accurately placed on the web in CMYK colours a wide colour gamut is achieved. Whilst high speed for a machine of its type digital printing is still typically a slow process, especially when compared to standard production.

As well as working with our customers designs we also offer image advice, image sourcing and creative services to our customers if they don’t have their own file. We can communicate electronically via FTP, so there can be huge files travelling backwards and forwards between us. Unlike stocked product each job is totally unique so there is real attention to detail required, mistakes would be expensive.

Last year we worked with our in-house designers and launched a range of digital designs entitled Limited Edition Digital. These are studio based and provided in a standard scale and set of colourways but with the option to adjust many of them so that the customer can add their own signature. The ability to make wallcovering designs without being restricted to a repeat size or colour limitations opens up wonderful opportunities for our design team. The deisgns are split into three categories Classic Arts, Floral and Modern.
